FOUND - Akita Mix off Highway 16, near Rumsey, California

We found a young, male, Akita Mix on May 31, 2026, off Highway 16 near Rumsey, California. He has been reported as a found dog to the Lake, Colusa, Mendocino, Napa and Yolo County shelters already.

He is white, black and tan. Possibly an Akita/Husky Mix - he has one blue eye and one brown eye. He is not neutered and has no identification tags, collar or microchip. He does seem well groomed so i don't believe he was out too long, but he was very thirsty and hot. He really doesn't seem to have experience with a leash, cars, indoors, or much. He seems to be young - 1 year old or less.

After not finding anyone in the area looking for him, we drove him home and he is safe with us as we try to reunite him with his family. We have been told that the area is notorious for dumping dogs so we are hoping that is not the case here.

If you know where his home is or would possibly like to adopt him if no one comes to take him back home, please send an email to: shyamaapatel@gmail.com

Duffy - ADOPTED!

Hello!
My name is Duffy and I'm a 2-year-old, neutered, Akita that currently weighs about 90-pounds.
I'm a friendly and rambunctious guy that's looking for a family that understands the needs of big floofs like me. If you've had akitas before, even better!
I'm still working on some manners and social skills so I prefer to live in an adult-only household or ones with children that are at least 12 years old.
If you have a resident dog, I would love to meet him or her before I officially join the family. If I get to choose, I prefer the ladies over male dogs.
I love to play and can be affectionate once I'm comfortable. I will need a lot of brushing to make sure my luxurious mane remains gorgeous. I promise I'm worth the work!

Nike

My name is Nike and I am a spayed female, black and white Akita and Siberian Husky.
The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 10-months old. I have been at the shelter since January 15, 2026.
Nike arrived at the Shelter by no fault of her own – her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Nike has been described as energetic and friendly with people. She enjoys going for walks and runs.
She’s lived with children ages 5, 8 and 9 years of age as well as teenagers and did well with them. She was crated when left alone for a few hours and was eager to reconnect with her family when they came home.
Nike is a smart cookie and comes with a whole vocabulary of things she knows including: “sit”, “lay down”, “high five”, “shake”, “wait”, “slow down”, and “come here”. She would love to work her brain with her new family (and bond through positive reinforcement based training.
Nike enjoys riding in the car on her way to adventures. She can be selective in her dog friends (liking some but not others) so if there are any resident dogs in the home, it would be recommended they meet prior to adoption.
Nike's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home.
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!
Nike’s Animal ID is A327886

If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Emi

Meet Emi!
Our Graceful Survivor Searching for Her Forever Home.
For more than two long years, Emi has been patiently waiting for the day she can finally go home. That’s an incredible show of strength for any dog, but for a senior like Emi it’s pure resilience of heart and spirit.

Once a beloved family companion, Emi has faced her time in rescue with quiet dignity and balance. Like the Yin and Yang she seems to embody, Emi has learned to find peace in the in-between, accepting her life in transition while still holding onto hope.
Despite her time in care, Emi remains a radiant soul, endearing, mischievous, and deeply loving. She moves with grace and elegance, her beautiful brindle coat gleaming as she trots happily beside you on her short walks. She loves affection, engaging with her people and, of course crinkly toys and tasty treats!

At around 10 years old, Emi still has that classic Akita spirit, a touch of independence and a sparkle of opinionated charm. She manages some mild arthritis with anti-inflammatories, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying playtime or soaking up sunshine in the yard.
Emi would flourish in a home without other dogs or cats so she can shower you with all her love.
What Emi needs most now is what every dog deserves: a soft place to land, a family to call her own, and the comfort of knowing she’s home at last. Please consider opening your heart and home to this extraordinary girl. Whether through adoption or as a permanent foster, you could be the one to give Emi the peace, love, and security she’s been waiting for all this time. She’s ready….she just needs someone to finally say, “Welcome home, Emi!”

Kuma

Kuma is a male Akita Mix that is about one to two years old. He still squats to pee! He is such a sweet boy with a happy-go-lucky temperament and medium energy. He has shown to do well with other dogs big and small. He is playful when they want to play and takes social cues well. He is very well-mannered. Kuma loves to do tricks for treats, go for walks, and get all the pets and attention he can.

Our shelter is overflowing and we are having to double/triple up on kennels. Kuma is in desperate need to find his positive outcome.
Please let us know if you can help this sweet boy!

Panda

Meet Panda, a 6-year-old, 58-pound Akita Mix, instantly recognizable by her beautiful white coat and striking panda-like mask. With her soft eyes and serene presence, Panda brings a calm, steady energy.

• Polite and easygoing: Panda walks well on leash, only pulling moderately when something especially interesting catches her attention.
• Well-mannered: She may jump a little and wiggle when excited, but sits automatically for treats or when being leashed and responds beautifully to “sit” and sometimes “down.”
• Affiliative and gentle: This sweet girl enjoys neck scritches and soft pets, sitting calmly with a loose, relaxed posture and soft gaze.
• Responsive and engaging: She’ll come over to sniff and check in with her person, always ready for quiet connection and gentle praise.
• Calm and balanced: Panda’s mellow, affiliative nature makes her a joy to be around and easy to handle.

Whether she’s exploring on leash or leaning in for affection, Panda exudes warmth and quiet confidence. She would thrive in a home with well-matched canine companions or as the cherished solo dog, enjoying the company of friendly dog pals on her own terms.

URGENT!!! - Akita Mix in Fairfield, California

On Friday 9/19/25, I found an Akita Mix roaming around my neighborhood in Benicia, California.

He had no tags and no chip. I posted him on all of the local social sites and took him to the county shelter in Fairfield on Friday afternoon.
As of yesterday he was still there. His stray hold is up tomorrow. I am reaching out to in hope that someone can potentially pull him out of the shelter environment. His identification at the shelter is A305236.

Jabulani

Jabulani, lovingly nicknamed Jabu for short, is a sweet girl looking to affectionately nuzzle her way into your heart!

This precious girl absolutely adores being in the company of her human companions. She greets everyone she meets with a curly tailed tail wag and lots of slobbery kisses. She also makes sure to show off her agile spins and funny vocalizations to wow her new friends.
She is an energetic and active pup that would love to go for long walks, spend some time playing fetch in the yard, training using positive reinforcement methods, and enjoying a nice food puzzle. Jabu is also a gold medalist at tug-of-war and an expert in squeeky toys.
You can see Jabu in action in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/j9ZpmzAYeRg

Petite and beautiful at 62 pounds and 11 years, Jabu prefers to be the apple of her person's eye, for this reason she would be perfectly happy as a solo dog. This elegant and refined young lady would prefer a home without tiny little hands as she enjoys her space after meals and that can be hard for kiddos to understand.

Jabu really loves her people and can be heard whining and complaining when left at home alone. With some support from our behavior team you should be able to work through her very mild separation anxiety. Overall, Jabu is a smart and bouncy girl, spinning around when she gets excited and even loves exploring the beach and dipping her paws in the ocean with her humans.

This sweet girl joined us after her guardian sadly passed away unexpectedly.
