These are the faces of the Palmdale Akitas
It has been almost two years since they were seized... As with all sensational stories like these, the initial shock and sense of urgency was tremendous and the outpouring of support was phenomenal. An undertaking of this magnitude takes time and patience to work through the logistics of moving and housing dogs, evaluating and vetting those
in most urgent need and organizing a means for adopters to meet the dogs. As time has passed, the images of these dogs have faded from the forefront, as we are inundated with the plights of other needy animals. Naturally, as with any long term effort, passing time has made these Akitas become a story of the past. Please don't let these Akitas fall from grace. They still need your help and ongoing support.
These dogs deserve to know what it's like to have a home to call their very own, and a special human or two to share their lives with, but most of all they deserve the chance to share their heart and souls with you, as only Akitas are capable of. Miraculously, these dogs have maintained their sense of dignity and undying Akita spirit. We are certain after looking at these images you will see what we have seen from the beginning. Dogs that despite their circumstances, remain trusting and loyal, but most of all hopeful.
Akitas are strong, silent, and stoic, but extremely sensitive and intuitive. Perhaps the worst crime of all that took place, is these dogs are living a life in transition, in a prolonged state of limbo, not knowing that unique bond with their human. That is the worst betrayal of all.
Each of these dogs is an individual with unique personalities of their own. Some are exuberant and playful, others more dignified and regal, while some are gentle, easy souls. Please see them as just that....individual personalities, not just a group called the "Palmdale Akitas". Please consider giving a home to Kimo, Akiko, Tiki, Kuma, Bobbie, Hannah, and so many others.

UPDATE (January 2008): All of the Palmdale Akitas have now found their new homes!
Financial help is still welcome as the volunteers and foster homes that helped rehabilitate and care for the Palmdale Akitas paid for much of the medical, housing and food expenses with the money from their own pockets. Any amount of help you can provide is welcome and appreciated (it's also tax deductible).
For those of you who have already made a donation to the Palmdale Akitas, "Thank You!"
We could not have rehomed all these Akitas without your help.
