Tora Amai

Tora Amai (Sweet Tiger)
Registered name: Crazy’s Paradise Tora Amai
Call name: Tora Amai (Tora) aka Arita
Birthdate: September 29, 2004

A most unique Akita, Tora is a purebred Brazilian Japanese Akita who has the quality of an untamed spirit. Feral and wild in appearance, her personality would appeal to those who are fascinated by wolves and their superior intelligence. Look deep into her eyes and you will see a predatory alertness reminiscent of an exotic wild animal.

Tora is not the dog for everyone, and anyone considering adoption should be able to stay one step ahead of her: be mentally sharp, firm and disciplined. This is not a dog you can leave at home to sleep the day away, Tora needs intelligent stimulation to remain occupied. Due to her unusual life experiences, Tora’s “people reading skills” are extremely accurate, and she has learned to manipulate people to serve her needs. She can exhibit problem solving capabilities not typically seen in canines.

Charming with an infectious sense of humor when it suits her, Tora is extremely loyal and affectionate to those who have earned her respect. Although never put to the test, we have no doubt that Tora would stand by your side to protect if she felt it necessary. She bonds very deeply, gazing at you with complete adoration, watching your every move. Content to linger the day with you, she also loves to play with her toys and is quite entertaining to watch as she throws her toys high in the air, only to catch them with exact precision. A very regal and dignified Akita, Tora greets newcomers with charm and grace, dividing her time so that everyone receives her special attention. Most people who spend time with her soon fall under her spell, as she is playfully affectionate but can also be quite the prankster!

Tora must be the only dog in the household, as she likes things orderly and has a very low tolerance for dogs that misbehave or do not follow commands. Of course, her rules about orderly conduct only apply to other dogs!

For more information about Tora, please send email to info@tikihutakitarescue.com

Sugar Bear - Adopted!

Sugar Bear is a handsome, 16-month old, male Akita that is looking for his new home and family.

Sugar is housetrained, knows some of his basic doggie manners, walks fairly well on lead and is practicing hard to be a perfect gentleman! He is still young and mischievous, so he will need continued training and exercise with someone with prior Akita experience. Sugar is not a dog you can just leave in your home or yard all day without anyone to interact with or supervise him.

He is able to get along with other dogs, but may be too much for some as he always wants to play with everyone he meets. He can not share a home with cats, birds or other small animals. However, he very much loves people and the attention they give him!

For more information about Sugar, please send an email to info@tikihutakitarescue.com

Yuukan

Yuukan is 6 years old and a large dog. Sadly, his family must find another home for him, due to medical reasons in the family. Yuukan would do best in a home without other dogs or cats, as he hasn't lived with either.

Here is what Yuukan's family says about him:
"Yuukan would be great in a home that enjoys having a dog around but doesn't need him by your feet all the time. He likes having people come pet him but not necessarily giving him constant attention. He loves short walks and being outside. He can handle an active home or a quiet one. Yuukan needs someone with patience because he sneezes and coughs and at 2 years old had a knee replacement. He loves to lay around in the house and just observe."

Yuukan is available for adoption through a private party; however, TikiHut is assisting them in the application and screening process. Yuukan's family will require a $75.00 adoption fee.

Husky/Akita Mix

I am a spayed, female, brown and white, Siberian Husky and Akita Mix. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old and I weigh approximately 52 pounds. I was found wandering alone with a cut lip and nose which the nice people at the shelter treated. When my owner was contacted, they said they'd pick me up, but never they never came. . .

I love to go for walks, but I like to take things a bit slower since I'm not a puppy anymore! I am a volunteer favorite and very sweet to everyone at the shelter.

Kay

My name is Kay and I am a female, black and gray Akita. I weigh approximately 96 pounds and the shelter thinks I am about 9 years old. I was found in a theater parking lot, waiting patiently for someone. They suspect I had been abandoned there.

I am a very content, happy dog that is extremely friendly and sweet and I love to have my picture taken! I have had some training - I'm well behaved on leash and know how to "sit" properly. I'm blowing my coat right now so I'll need a good brushing, grooming and maybe a teeth cleaning and manicure!

Shadow

Shadow is being called a Chow/German Shepherd (possibly Akita?) mix.  Nonetheless, he's a sweet senior boy who would love a home to call his own.  Here's what his foster mom says about him.

"Shadow is a 9 or 10 year old Chow/Shepard mix who acts much younger than his physical age. He was surrendered to Oakland Animal Services in September 2009, when his owner had to move to an apartment and couldn't keep him. He is currently in a foster home in Walnut Creek and loves having his own bed in a real home again!

He has a very sweet personality, is completely house broken and knows basic commands like sit, wait and heel. He loves to go on walks and ride in the car. He never barks and is very well behaved in the house. He likes people and other dogs!"

Sasha

Sasha is not in the TikiHut Foster Program, however we are assisting Sasha's owner in securing a suitable and experienced home for her. Sasha is located in the Sacramento, CA area.

Sasha is in need of a new home. Unfortunately her owner has fallen on hard times and is unable to care for her. Sasha would love a home where she can be walked, exercised and given affection and attention. She's been spayed and had an eye condition called entropion where the eyelids roll inward causing the lashes to rub on the eye. This was surgically corrected at UC Davis, and she has made a full recovery. Here's what her current guardian says about her:

"Sasha is between five and six years old. She needs love and attention. A home without cats, I think she would do fine with children after she gets the proper training. Sasha would do well in either an active home or a calm household. Sasha just needs a family who will care for her and give her the love she deserves. Daily walks are a must. She’s been in the backyard and she needs to get out. Once in a while I would have a friend of mine would walk her for me. Sasha is a strong Akita and I am a little person so she tends to pull at first on the leash, but with an owner who can control Sasha she does great.

Unfortunately I can not keep Sasha this is why I need to find her a home. I am a single parent who is going through hard times I can not keep Sasha. Please respond if you can give Sasha what she deserves".

There will be a $75.00 adoption fee to adopt Sasha, and a home visit may be conducted prior to adoption. Sasha is a big girl, (100 lbs.), and could stand to lose a little weight with some needed exercise. Due to her size we are asking for experienced Akitas owners who can handle her size. She is particular with other dogs so we recommend a home where she can be the only dog.

Serena

I’m a lovely mature lady a chow/shepherd mix (that's what the shelter has her listed as, but she looks like a longcoated Akita) -- who arrived at the shelter as a “stray”. I’m relaxed, calm, and seem to like everyone. I’m “light as a feather” on a leash when walking. I’m ever so gentle when I take treats from your hand. I would love nothing more than to cuddle up with you and be part of your family. But, just so you know, I still have plenty of energy and enjoy a jog or brisk walk. I miss having a “real forever” home. I’m can be found at the East County Animal Shelter in D1.

Blake is a very friendly guy looking for a loving home!

Baloo

Baloo is an older German Shepherd/Chow mix. He was the victim of a hoarder situation and lived in miserable conditions for a good part of his life. For the past two years he has been fostered in loving homes but needs to find his forever home.

If you would like a loving, faithful companion please call Kathi @530-295-3911 or Lauren @530-432-2778 or email
